M.G. Schlegel & Associates is a family run estate and business insurance planning brokerage company. We help individuals, families and business owners create and implement insurance programs that meet their needs and expectations. We specialize in life, disability and long term care insurance planning with some of the most competitive underwriting in the country. We have over 100 years of combined experience between the three representatives in our firm.


Michael G. Schlegel, CLU, ChFC, AEP
Mike graduated from Oregon State University with a BS in Business. He entered into the life insurance industry in 1971 and has held a variety of positions including: agent, field manager, and executive level manager with a major insurance company. In 1988, he formed MG Schlegel & Associates, which specializes in wealth preservation planning and family business succession. He is a member of Crump Potomac Affluent Markets (CPAM), the high-end boutique platform within Crump Life Insurance Services. CPAM provides us with advanced technical and competitive underwriting and sales support.
Mike holds the following designations with the American College: Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®). In 2008 he was awarded the Accredited Estate Planning (AEP®) designation from The National Association of Estate Planning Council.
Mike is a member and has served on many industries professional associations, including Past President of the Marin County Estate Planning Council, Mt. Diablo Estate Planning Council, and is a Past President of the Marin Chapter Society of Financial Services Professionals. He is a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Round Table and “Top of the Table”. Member of NAIFA.
His wife, Marcella, and daughter, Krystalynn, work in the practice. Mike has another daughter, Kaellen, who has two children, Kyle and Kassondre.

Krystalynn M. Schlegel, CLU, ChFC, CLTC
Krystalynn specializes in working with business owners and families in their quest to retain and pass wealth efficiently. She enjoys educating her clients to the fullest extent and provides them with the tools they need to make a qualified decision with regards to life, disability and long term care insurance products and their applications in estate, business and family planning.
Krystalynn graduated from UC Berkeley in 2001 and entered into the life insurance industry in 2003 with John Hancock and in 2007 joined MG Schlegel and Associates as an independent insurance advisor. Krystalynn holds a Certified in Long Term Care Certification, Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant designations. She also attained the Accredited Estate Planner designation most recently in 2023. Krystalynn is Past President of the Marin NAIFA Chapter and the Marin County Estate Planning Council. She is a member of Finseca and Forum 400.
Krystalynn attended The Frederick Gunn School in Washington, CT where she now holds a position on the Board of Trustees. She is very active in her community and enjoys a healthy lifestyle. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her family and friends and her miniature dachshund, Lorenzo. Krystalynn currently resides in Montana working with clients remotely in over 20 states.

Marcella K. Leaton, CLTC
Marcella retired with 35 years of experience with Prudential Financial in 2008. She maintains her license for Life and Health Insurance products. Over the years, Marcella served on many Boards including President and Executive Director for National Association for Professional Saleswomen. Those positions rewarded her to the extent that she was able to meet and be involved with many talented saleswomen and men across the nation that strengthened her commitment to sales in the insurance industry. She is a member of the Marin NAIFA.
She currently acts as Vice President for MG Schlegel and Associates. She has extensive knowledge of disability, health, life, and long-term care products. Marcella prepares and provides administrative support to Michael and Krystalynn. Her responsibility is to maintain the office functions on a day to day basis with record keeping, client contact and marketing strategies.
Marcella’s outside interests include in-depth planning and traveling the globe; she has been to over 100 countries and all 7 continents, enjoys arranging private travel for others, gourmet cooking, entertaining friends and spending time with her family and animals.
